Admitting a Mistake
Province Wide House League Changes for First Half
Learning from Eachother...
At 11:30 of the first period, A4 gets a hooking penalty. At 10:31, A54 gets a slashing penalty. At 10:15, The A-Team coach yells at the referee and gets a 2 minute minor served by A6. HERE IS ERROR #1: in this game the time keeper let A4 on the ice at 9:30. Here is Error #2: the referees did not stop play immediately...instead they yelled at A4 to get off the ice.
What we Learned
The timekeeper should have followed this procedure for Error #1: There are three A-players in the box serving time penalties, but a team can only be two players short at any time so the third penalty does not start immediately. In this case, the coach's penalty would not start until 9:30 when A4's penalty expires. No one would come on the ice at 9:30 and Team A would continue to play one player short unitl 8:31 when A54's penalty ends. A4 gets to return to the players bench at the next whistle. For error #2, the officials should have stopped play as soon as they noticed the error. By trying to tell the player to get off the ice, they let some of the 2-man advantage expire. Stop play, reset the advantage to 5 on 3, drop the puck at the appropriate face off dot.
