Mask Rule Reminder and Directive to Officials-In Effect December 15th, 2021 until March 15, 2022
If a coach is not wearing a mask, or wearing a mask improperly, the Referee will warn both benches to wear masks. Any further infractions will result in a bench-minor penalty.
Why? Hockey Winnipeg has been informed of rostered individuals, specifically coaches on the bench failing to properly wear masks in indoor facilities. As a reminder, Masks must be worn properly at all times while in the facility, with the exception of those currently participating on the ice. Coaches on the bench must wear their masks at all times, and wear them properly. By adhering to the Public Health Orders we are doing everything we can to protect the 2021-22 hockey season and keep hockey going. Conversely, failing to adhere to the Public Health Order restrictions risks postponement or termination of the 2021-22 hockey season and/or further restrictions.
Hand Shakes at Beginning and End of Game
As of February 17, 2022, there has been no direction from Hockey Winnipeg or Hockey Manitoba about officials shaking hands with coaches before the game or the teams shaking hands after the game. Therefore, until you hear otherwise, continue to not shake hands before the game and have teams salute each other rather than shake hands post-game.
