HWRD Virtual Courses and In-Person Sessions

Note 1: THESE ARE NOT CERTIFICATION CLINICS. Certification is usually open until mid-November each season. Visit Hockey Manitoba for more registration information.
Note 2 : For Vvrtual classes, you will receive an invite email to the virtual classroom 1 week before the course.
Note 3: All times are Central Standard Time for Manitoba, Canada. If you need to convert to another timezone, use this website.
Note 4: You may attend any combination of courses. For Example, you may attened the in-person session without attending a virtual course.

3-Official ref Line

Beginner 3-Official Course: Liners

  • Location: Virtual, a link will be emailed to you 1-week before your course.

  • Dates & Times: This course will be run twice:

    • November 15, 2026, 8am-10qm
    • January 6, 2027, 7pm-9pm

  • This course will teach you how to use your Two-Official skills as a Linesperson. You will learn how to work the line & when/how to use endzone positioning. You will learn strategies to stay out of the way of the play and switch lines. This course will also help you develop the ability to pursue the play and understand your job as the back and front Linesman. The instructor will teach you how to manage stoppages to reduce incidents. Finally, you will learn about hotspots and presence to help prepare you for the Game Management Course.

  • Sign up for this clinic if you have one year of experience as an official and want to develop or tune-up your skills as a Linesperson. You can also sign up for this course if you are want to improve your Referee skills by learning more about the skills and roles of a Linesperson.

Beginner 3-Official Course: Referee

  • Location: Virtual, a link will be emailed to you 1-week before your course.

  • Dates & Times: This course will be run twice:

    • November 12, 2026, 7pm-9pm

    • January 9, 2027, 8am-10am

  • This course will teach you how to use your Two-Official skills as a Referee. You will learn when/how to work the line & how to use end zone positioning. You will learn strategies to stay out of the way in the endzone and neutral zone. This course will also help you develop the ability to pursue the play and understand your goals while you follow the play up the ice. The instructor will teach you how to manage stoppages with your voice and eyes as well as how to call penalties to have maximum effect. Finally, you will learn about hotspots, presence, and impact penalties to help prepare you for the Game Management Course.

  • Sign up for this clinic if you have one year of experience as an official and want to develop your skills as a referee. You could also sign-up for this course if you want to improve your skills as a Linesperson by understanding the skills and roles of a Referee.

Virtual Courses

Beginner Two-Official System Course

  • Location: Virtual, a link will be emailed to you 1-week before your course.

  • Dates & Times: This course will be run twice:

    • November 18, 2026, 7pm-9pm

    • January 12, 2027, 7pm-9pm

  • This course will help you develop a better understanding of how the positioning of the two-official system allows two officials to maximize their coverage of the ice. Attendees will also be given the opportunity to better understand how procedures allow them to manage stoppages and reduce the risk of incidents from occurs. Finally, the two-official course will prepare officials to transition to the three-official system.

  • Sign up for this clinic if you want to improve your understanding and execution of the two-official game.

Game Management: Preventing bad things from happening.

  • Location: Virtual, a link will be emailed to you 1-week before your course.

  • Date & Time: This course will be run once:

    • November 21, 2026, 8am-10am

  • This course will teach you about managing your emotions, communicating, and using hotspots to prevent bad things from happening.

  • Note: you are not required to attend the January Game Management Course to attend this one.

 

Game Management: Responding when bad things happen.

  • Location: Virtual, a link will be emailed to you 1-week before your course.

  • Date & Time: This course will be run once:

    • ​January 14, 2027, 7pm-9pm

  • This course will teach you about responding to negative events that occur on the ice using impact non-calls, impact penalties, verbal communication and non-verbal communication. 

  • Note: you are not required to attend the November Game Management Course to attend this one.

Two-Official and GM

Three-Official Observation Game

  • Location, Dates & Times: This course will be run twice:

    • Date: TBD, Time: TBD, Location: TBD

    • Date: TBD, Time: TBD, Location: TBD

  • These sessions will both be a U15AA game using three officials in which participants will watch more experienced officials work the game.

  • There will be mentors watching the game with participants. Mentors are there to answer questions and explain what they are seeing on the ice.

  • Sign-up for this session if you have at least one season of experience  and want to learn more about the Three-Official System.

Two-Official Observation Game
